In this article we’ll talk about how the adaptive design of the SwiftDial homepage makes it possible to use it with different devices and displays.

ADAPTIVE SITES

By default, sites on the homepage try to keep your chosen dimensions the best they can, and, to do that, can change their row placement along with expanding or shrinking of the browser window.

When the width of a browser window is too small sites can proportionally shrink in order not to go beyond its borders.

In the «Global Settings» panel you can choose the mode in which sites will always keep their placement and will proportionally adapt their dimensions depending on the dimensions of a browser window.

ADAPTIVE MENU PANELS

The dimensions and placement of the SwiftDial menu panels also depend on the dimensions of a browser window (or dimensions of a mobile device’s display).

Given a wide enough window, menu panels will be placed on the right or left side of the homepage depending on your chosen settings.

When the window is scaled down to a compact size the panels might take the whole window or its bottom part.

ADAPTIVE PINNED SITE GROUPS

Changes of the browser window dimensions also affect the site groups pinned to the main menu.

In the horizontally placed main menu, depending on the browser window size, all or some of the groups can have a title. Others will be displayed as icons.

In the vertically placed main menu all
groups are displayed as icons as well.

Given a small size of the main menu, all pinned site groups or some of them can be hidden. Even in this case you can always use and manage any of your created site groups with the help of the «Site Groups» panel.

Currently we view the pinned groups as the most frequently used out of all the groups from the «Site Groups» panel and their maximum amount is equal to nine,
which, by our account, should be more than enough in the absolute majority of cases.

We have received an idea from some users to revamp the design to fit more pinned site groups in the main menu if required.

ADAPTIVE FEATURES

Some SwiftDial features might only be available in those browsers and operating systems that have the tools required for their implementation.

For example, the feature of opening sites in new windows (including private windows) only makes sense in the desktop browsers, as there are currently no concept of a «window» in mobile browsers and/or mobile operating systems.
