A few words about practices
Serious philosophical works claim that all practices that came to Western man from the East are not adapted to the Western mentality and do not have the desired effect on it, and in some cases are dangerous for it.
Practice is effective actions aimed at increasing perception by maintaining a healthy body, clarity of mind and an open heart. Moreover, this or that practice is effective in a specific area, at a specific moment and for a specific person. There is no need to talk about any mass character here.
Imagine a surgeon who would say and preach the method of removing the appendix as an effective method of improving the quality of life and thought, increasing earnings and improving personal life, etc. for everyone. I believe that we would give such a "specialist" a wide berth.
Why should we have any other criteria in the spiritual sphere that are different from the criteria we apply in ordinary material everyday life - common sense? Philosophers say just the opposite: the only criterion for the truth of the proposed practice is the common sense of a person.
Now a few words about spirituality in practices. Sages say that a person understands spirituality as a series of emotional outbursts and stimuli that he strives to comprehend, instead of other real progress in his life. Hurrying to plunge into a storm of emotions through "practices", we act in much the same way as people waiting at the doors of a supermarket, waiting for the doors to open so they can run and snatch up a new, sparkling household appliance at a lower price. Emotions, excitement, delight, egoism - instead of calm, prudence, moderation and service to others.
Any true practice should lead a person to several main points directly related to human life:
1. Health of the body;
2. Clarity and sobriety of thoughts;
3. The desire to comprehend the Law of the Universe without the desire to possess It;
4. Order in the everyday and social sphere: relationships in the family, at work, in society;
5. The desire to protect and serve all living things;
6. Cultivating a sense of unity with all of Humanity.
The last point is necessary for realizing one's own purpose in life and getting rid of the feeling of consumer egoism.
