Hello to the developer who decided to stop by here!
I’m an ordinary translator into Russian, I myself have some translating skills, and banally make mistakes in the text :)
A little about the process of game translation:
1. I take the source text, often translate directly in the game’s original files, but for developers or at my own discretion, translations are made through the SDK — it’s Ren’Py translation (in the `tl` folder).
2. For translation, I use various tools: from basic language knowledge (which isn’t much) to using DeepL, AI, or assistance from other translators (on how to translate certain sentences in a more interesting way while retaining their meaning).
3. In very rare cases, the game receives an exclusive translation — almost like your own work, you understand what I mean? This means I begin to fix existing translation manually, completely rebuilding the meaning of every line. But this requires time, interest in the plot and the game itself. In regular games, I try to engage in such things occasionally “just because I can.”
4. The translation goes through text testing, which I conduct both independently and with a couple of my Boosty subscribers. For them, I leave the most interesting parts, looking for errors related to code breaks, such as misplaced square brackets (`[mc]` turning into `mc]`), or developer mistakes like using forced comparisons in if conditions (for example, `if d.who == "Max"`). These issues might escape my attention since I don’t always know where comparisons could occur during translation.
5. After testing, I submit the translation here and you. Usually, I aim to complete the translation no later than 1–2 weeks after public release. Sometimes I can even finish faster (though there are nuances).
