На создание книиги «о мужчинах, парящих в воздухе» меня вдохновила история двух американских летчиков литовского происхождения, которые в начале 1930-х годов пытались установить новый мировой рекорд, перелетев через Атлантику в Восточную Европу. Я нашла упоминание об этой попытке в стихотворении Иосифа Бродского и решила создать свой собственный «параллельный мир» в черно-белых образах. Моя история - это мечта любого человека вырваться из замкнутого круга всевозможных ограничений и улететь в далекую неизвестность в поисках безграничной свободы, обрести истинную родину и настоящий дом.

“J.B. about men floating in the air” was inspired by the story of two Lithuanian-American pilots who tried to set a new world record by flying over the Atlantic into Eastern Europe in the early 1930s. I found a reference to the attempt in a Joseph Brodsky poem and decided to create my own ‘parallel world’ in black-and-white images. My story is about any person’s dream to break free of the vicious circle of all kinds of constraints and to fly away to a distant unknown in search of unlimited freedom, to find a true motherland and real home.

Проект «Наутилус» задумывался как воображаемый музей, экспонаты которого были разбросаны по городскому пространству. В то время как витрина музея защищает объект и изолирует его от зрителей, я разместила свои работы прямо на улицах Кронштадта. Полностью осознавая непостоянство бумажных коллажей, я выбирала для них такие стены, которые тоже хранили следы времени. Я была одержима желанием почувствовать их и узнать город на ощупь.

The Nautilus project was meant to be an imaginary museum, whose exhibits were dispersed in the urban area. Whereas the showcase of the museum protects an object and isolates it from the audience, I placed my pieces of work right in the streets of Kronshtadt. Being fully aware of the impermanence of the paper collages, I chose for them such walls that kept the traces of time. I was obsessed by a desire to feel them and to know the town by touch.

У меня страсть к музеям. Когда меня пригласили на месяц поработать в резиденции ISSP в Риге, я решила исследовать местные музеи и создать книгу художника, вдохновленную «Воображаемым музеем» Андре Мальро. Согласно концепции, изложенной Мальро, Воображаемый музей не подчиняется пространству и времени. Он существует в сознании и хранит не сами произведения, а память о них - образы, обработанные и переосмысленные воображением. Ссылаясь на идею кочевника и используя фотографию как метод визуального исследования, я рассматриваю производство изображений как вовлечение и воплощение памяти. Я исследую кочевое мышление через рефлексивный фотографический процесс, который кажется мне эхом окружающего пространства, создающим связь с ним как на большом, так и близком расстоянии.

I have a passion for museums. When I was invited for a month to work in the ISSP residence in Riga, I decided to explore the museums and create an artist book, inspired by Le Muse Imaginaire by Andre Malraux. According to the concept outlined by Malraux, the Imaginary Museum does not submit to space and time. It exists in consciousness and does not store the works themselves, but the memory of them — images processed and reinterpreted by imagination. Referring to the idea of a nomad and using photography as a visual research method, I consider image production as the engagement and embodiment of memory. I explore the nomadic thinking through a reflexive photographic process, which seems to me an echo of the surrounding space that creates a connection with it both distant and close.

Эта книга отражает мой интерес к взаимоотношениям между фотографией и театром как пространством для репрезентации. Объединив свои собственные изображения и фотографии из неизвестного архива, я создала LIBRETTO как конструкцию нескольких фрагментов реальной и воображаемой жизни человека через имитацию театральной сцены. Комбинация различных разворотов в книге представляет мизансцены, где многочисленные точки отсчета - история страны, частный архив, театр и балет - пересекаются. 

This book reflects my interest in the relationship between photography and theatre as a space for representation. Bringing together my own images and photos from an unknown archive I created LIBRETTO as a construct of several pieces of real and imaginary life of someone through the imitation of the theatrical stage. The combination of different layouts in the book can be understood as various miseen-scenès where multiple reference points— the history of a country, private archive,

theatre and ballet — intersect.

Тема «дом» - одна из основных в моей художественной практике. Меня всегда интересовал вопрос о том, меняется ли наше отношение к дому с течением времени и зависит ли оно от места, в котором мы живем. 2020 год, когда из-за пандемии был объявлен карантин, был очень сложным. Мы все были скованы своими страхами и тревогами. Но эта книга дала мне возможность объединить людей со всего мира и почувствовать, что мы не одиноки, что мы - вместе.

The theme of “home” is one of the main themes in my artistic practice. I have always been interested in the question of whether our relationship to home changes over time and whether it depends on the place we live in. The year 2020, when a quarantine was declared due to a pandemic, was a very difficult year. We were all constrained by our fears and anxieties. But this book gave me the opportunity to bring people from all over the world together and feel that we are not alone, that we are together.
