Symbolic aphorisms of Pythagoras
STAY AWAY FROM THE ROADS WALKED IN, USE THE PATHS UNGOLDEN.
This must be understood to mean that those who seek wisdom must seek it in solitude.
HELP THE PERSON TO CARRY THE BURDEN, BUT DON'T HELP THE PERSON TO GET RID OF IT.
One should help the diligent, but never help those who seek to avoid responsibility - it is a sin to help the lazy.
DON'T RETURN TO YOUR HOUSE Abandoned, OR THE FURY WILL BE YOUR COMPANY.
Pythagoras here warns that if a person, having begun the search for truth and studied some of the sacraments, tries to return to his path of vice and ignorance, he will suffer terrible suffering. It is better to know nothing about the divine than to know little and stop halfway.
FEED THE COCK BUT DO NOT SACRIFICE HIM, FOR HE IS SACRED TO THE SUN AND THE MOON.
There are two great lessons hidden in this aphorism. The first is that living beings should not be sacrificed to the gods, for life is sacred and should not be destroyed, even when offered to God.
The second is a warning to man that the human body, symbolized here by the cock, is sacred to the sun (God) and the moon (nature) and should be preserved as the most precious means of human embodiment. Pythagoras also warned his disciples against suicide.
DO NOT WISHFULLY EXTEND YOUR RIGHT HAND TO ANYONE.
This is a warning to the Disciple: he should have his own mind and not impart wisdom and knowledge (the right hand) to those who are not capable of appreciating it.
The hand here represents truth, which lifts up those who have fallen through ignorance; but as many of those who have fallen have no need of wisdom, they would sooner cut off the hand that is extended to them. Time alone can help to redeem the ignorance of men.

guys, I'm having a very rough time. I spent 14-28 yrs old living first 4yrs in Mandeville Canyon, then for 10 yrs, my parents owned a home on Sunset Blvd, half a mile up from PCH. I left long ago, but my nieces, great-nephews, and so many friends are still there. I live alone in Seattle. THIS is the most difficult time I can even recall. so so so sad....

Hey Geary, It seems cold, but I will go with what popped into my mind first thing... The crucible purification of fire is the most difficult for me. The fire I speak of is the fire of thoughts fueling emotions just like the winds fan the flames. I can only speak for myself, but I go through this in varying degrees almost every day. The only way I have found to regain some peace of mind and body is to simply feel the pain. Not try to avoid it in any way. Just feel the searing pain of whatever it is you are feeling. The raw pain... and do your best to let the thoughts just be there. Not easy for me. Much love to you, bro.
