The only sacrifice worthy of man
It is said that King Solomon, having completed the construction of his temple, sacrificed bulls to the Lord, burning them on the temple altar. Those who believe in innocent life wonder why the Bible contains so many references to animal sacrifice. The disciple, however, understands that the animals sacrificed were those from the celestial zodiac, and that when Aries or Taurus were sacrificed on the altar, they represented the qualities in man derived from Aries, the celestial Ram, and Taurus, the Bull of the zodiac. In other words, the Initiate, having undergone trials and purification, offers a sacrifice of their lower animal instincts and desires on the altar of their own higher being.
M. P. Hall
The only sacrifice worthy of man is the sacrifice of his own animal nature, with its constant, uncontrollable desires and anxieties, for the sake of higher ideals, for the awakening of himself and all humanity.
