Crafting Targona romance

Hello!
Were you disappointed that you couldn’t romance Targona? Good news – soon, you’ll be able to! Targona has inspired Nahyndrian Romances to make our first mod for Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous! Both male and female Commanders will be able to romance Targona, but only if you’ve chosen the Angel mythic path. Without further ado, let’s get into details.
When we were starting work on the mod, we were deciding between Targona and Hand of the Inheritor. In the end, we went with Targona, because she seemed like a challenging character to write. However, the process of writing her romance was quick and enjoyable!
In our eyes, this angelic maiden is tender and calm, but resilient. When you first meet her, she looks like she needs care and protection, but that is far from the truth. Targona is steadfast and iron-willed, capable of self-sacrifice for a righteous cause. Her unique wings represent the duality of her character, as well as the central conflict of her story. Targona is stuck between two worlds – the world of an ideal angel and the world of her true self. She’s having a hard time admitting that she might be poisoned by corruption, but nevertheless remains steadfast and loyal to her cause and herself. If we could summarize her story in a single sentence, it would be in Targona’s own words: “Even if I’m not perfect, I deserve to be loved.”
In her romance, we will expand on these developments to give her more depth. For example, during certain crucial moments your Commander will be able to give her moral support or chastise her for succumbing to self-pity. Targona, in turn, will come to your Commander’s aid and remind them that they are not alone.
One of the hardest parts of writing Targona was the angels’ manner of speech. These divine beings speak with a certain flair of grandeur, using flowery language. We tried to take that into account when writing Targona, giving her dialogue the same touch of divine grandeur, as if she’s a bit above it all – because, let’s be fair, living in Heaven, she IS above it all. Here are a few examples, where you can compare the way the angels speak in the game and how we are writing Targona.
Targona and speaking with Echo of Deskari in Alushinyrra
Hand of Inheritor about Echo and portal.
Can you guess when Targona would say something like that?
We’ve not only expanded the in-game dialogue, but have also added new scenes, unique for this romance. Here’s what we can say without spoiling anything – the Commander will be able to not only find out more about Targona and other angels, but also about themselves. This love story is as cute as it is serious – just like Targona herself!
And, of course, everyone’s favorite – companion banter! We’ve added new banter into the game, where your companions will react to Targona and your relationships with her.
The world’s reactivity does wonders for immersion! That is why we are taking into account the player’s chosen origin, class and race: the many details which, unfortunately, were often ignored in the main game.
We even have dialogue for an Angel follower of Rovagug!
And now, a couple of things that make modding WoTR that much more enjoyable. When writing one of the scenes, we’ve discovered that the Sword of Valor is its own separate model and is literally hanging in the air. We also found out that you can place characters on top of lanterns. This could help create quite an interesting set up for a romantic date in one of the future romances. Who knows?
A small reminder – we are currently gathering funds to give Targona a unique character portrait. Any donations will be greatly appreciated and will be used to further improve our romance mods!
What characters do you want to get more party banter? What kind of scenes would you like to see when romancing Targona? Tell us in the comments below!
