About Yaker romance

A passionate, self-sacrificial love of a chivalrous knight for his lady, the kind of love you’ve read or heard about in ballads… Yaker Ankelle's story is not about that kind of love. Between love and duty, this Hellknight chooses duty every time. Without further ado, Nahyndrian Romances team presents: an insight into the mind of the elusive Hell Knight, Yaker.
Resistance to temptations, coldheadedness, self-control – all of these were hammered into Yaker’s head by his order’s most devout teachers, although he still has some flaws, unworthy of a Hellknight. His impulsiveness is a damning flaw, according to Regill, but does the Commander think the same way?
This young Hellknight is having a hard time finding his own path. He swore an oath to oppose chaos, but his impulsiveness and heightened sense of justice will not allow him to simply stand by and keep quiet in any situation. Yaker isn’t used to making friends with his commanders, but he will repay kindness with kindness: not only does he stand up for the Commander during the Hellknight trial, but in response to being granted some leeway, he engages in frivolous relationships with the Commander! This honest expression of feelings brings Yaker much grief: after all, he’s engaging in flirting with the Knight-Commander of the 5th Crusade, that sort of behavior is NOT tolerated by most Hellknights!
However, the breathtaking realization that his feelings had been reciprocated overshadows Yaker’s worries. If his advances are refused, he takes it in stride – he doesn’t expect special treatment. Despite his low rank, if romanced, he aims to take the wheel of the relationship.
This romance is sudden and sporadic, at first. Both Yaker and Commander know they’re playing with fire: very few will be willing to accept the relationship between Knight-Commander of the Mendevian Crusade and a member of the feared Order of the Godclaw. At best, it would surprise the leaderships of both of these organizations, at worst – draw their ire. But do the opinions of others matter, when two souls are together, not for momentary pleasure, but for the growing feeling of comfort and safety in each other’s company?
However, Yaker is bound by a strict set of rules – if his paramour goes against his order or enters an open confrontation with his Paralictor (like killing him or, far worse, eating him!), then any sort of relationship is impossible, of course. If the Commander’s and Yaker’s loyalties are in alignment, then he’s exactly the guy who’ll charge the enemy with you, shoulder to shoulder. Or shoulder to kneepad, depending on your chosen race.
Yaker isn’t a companion, he does not even have mythic powers, but it is these kinds of relationships with a simple mortal that remind the mythic-powered Commander about simple mortal values that they’re fighting for. Whenever the new hope of Golarion ventures next, the loyal Yaker will cover their rear, or, if such need arises, confront the enemy in the open field.
