You will probably need a Dutch bank account. Obtaining a Dutch bank account in general will make many aspects of life in the Netherlands easier. Many Dutch ISPs accept payments through iDeal, an online payment method that only works with Dutch banks.

However, if you really do not want a Dutch bank account and you still need the internet, the following providers offer some alternatives.

T-Mobile allows you to order online subscriptions at the store while XS4ALL and Ziggo allow you to order by phone. Also, Solcon allows you to order online as long as you provide your IBAN (bank account) number.

Most contracts are for at least 12 months. That is why you should check your contract with utmost detail. If you are going to live in the Netherlands for a short period of time, finding an internet contract for less than one year is going to be difficult; however, not impossible.

Many contracts allow you to cancel before the end of the year, but they will likely incur a penalty. This fee often means that you will pay the same amount as you would for a year. 

If you are a short-term resident, you will just want to think about getting mobile internet during your stay. 

You may not have the option to choose the type of connection that you can get. When it comes to getting cable Internet, your choice may be limited by the providers. There may be only one provider that can provide Internet access to your home. This is why it is best to do your own research when it comes to the connections available in your area.

Since wired Internet is the most popular type of connection in the Netherlands, providers are involved in setting it up. Not only that, but it also means that you can configure your Internet, TV, and landline at the same time.

If you are in the country for a short time, mobile Internet may be an option for you. The most common way to get mobile internet is by getting a Dutch prepaid SIM card or a contract.

However, this is usually not the best way to have the internet. The speed can be a bit slow if you work from home or stream/download a lot. Meanwhile, data is not cheap in the Netherlands, so it can cost you a considerable amount of money.  Finally, the data is usually capped each month unless you can afford unlimited data.
