TO TREAT THE WORLD AND PEOPLE WITH CARE IS TO BE UNATTAINABLE
— To be inaccessible means that you touch the world around you sparingly. You don't eat five quail; you eat one. You don't damage the plants just to make a barbecue pit. You don't expose yourself to the power of the wind unless it is mandatory. You don't use and squeeze people until they have shriveled to nothing, especially the people you love.
— I have never used anyone," I said sincerely. But don Juan maintained that I had, and thus I could bluntly state that I became tired and bored with people.
— To be unavailable means that you deliberately avoid exhausting yourself and others," he continued. "It means that you are not hungry and desperate, like the poor bastard that feels he will never eat again and devours all the food he can, all five quail!

In the Sufi tradition there is such an expression: “Be among people, but be alone.” Sufis do not call for loneliness and isolation from other people. Not at all! In the Sufi understanding, a person cannot be alone, since God is always present in his Heart. That is why Sufis address each other as “Beloved” - the one who hears the Divine within himself and has accepted Him as his Guide.
To be alone in the understanding of the Sufis means to be with One, wherever a person is. Do not leave your Divine even in the center of a noisy crowd.
Nagualism teaches that caring for the world and the people around you, especially those you love, means being inaccessible to the World, being inaccessible to people. But this is a paradox - by caring for people, we interact with them, so we are available to them. Is not it so?
A caring and reverent attitude towards the world and the people around you is the behavior of a Guest in an invited home. The Guest is a Man of Power and Knowledge, because one Knows one's True Home and Source. This Source is not in the World. Guest "not of this world." One does not become so involved in the noise of the World that one begins to believe in It irrevocably and forget about one's True Home. The guest does not "squeeze people to the last drop." One has no sense of self-importance, which would tie oneself tightly to the World, forcing oneself to “squeeze It out without a trace,” which in essence would mean exhausting oneself.
The guest sees and knows that the World is the Most Magnificent Mystery and Miracle, where one was lucky enough to visit. Therefore, the Guest treats the World accordingly - with a Heart full of Love, reverence and gratitude to see and hear that Miracle that presented its Splendor before oneself, and which people are accustomed to calling “Peace”.
Can a Guest harm the World? Can a Guest take advantage of people and not feel respect and reverence for them, realizing that they are Guests just like oneself?
No. A guest with people, but alone, because in One. One does not feel sorry for himself, realizing that the World sheltered oneself only for a moment. Therefore, the troubles that sometimes happen in the World cannot extinguish its internal Fire or the Fire from within. The guest came here to listen to Tales of Power, to surrender to the Power of Silence, drowning out the noise of the crowd, and to warm people with Fire from Within. Especially those of them whom the Guest loves.
“Man serves God best when he serves people,” say the Mystics. “Take a step away from yourself, and you will find yourself close to God,” the Sufis answer them.
The guest serves the World and people. That is why it is not available either to the World or to people.
