RIM!TALE 0.4.0 — Alternative Echoes
ANOTHER VERSION OF THE STORY HAS ANSWERED.
Alternative Echoes is one of the largest RIM!TALE updates so far.
This update expands the mod with rare alternative fate patterns, Echo-Soul creatures, ideology support, Godhood support, Darkner resurrection balance, SAVE visual polish, and experimental Chinese Simplified localization.
This is not about adding AU characters as pawns.
It is about taking alternative outcomes — dust, fear, hunger, memory, deletion, hope, darkness, rewritten fate — and turning them into RimWorld systems.

Alternative Echoes
Alternative Echoes are rare traits that appear through Random SOUL and Random Monster Magic mechanics.
They are not normal trait-pool traits.
Current Echoes:
- Dust Echo — high LV, dust, violence, and better resistance to SOUL absorption consequences.
- Fell Echo — fear, hierarchy, cruelty, and power through pressure.
- Horror Echo — hunger, body pressure, exhaustion, and survival at the edge.
- After Echo — SAVE, return, death-memory, and broken continuity.
- Error Echo — deletion, desync, threads, and structural damage.
- Ink Echo — creation, adaptation, utility, and temporary forms.
- Overwrite Echo — forced role-patterns and rewritten fate.
Alternative Echoes now interact with absorption, Practical Magic, Godhood Rites, SAVE, Gaster reactions, and True Amalgamate fragments.
The default Echo chance was raised to 5%, so the system is rare but visible in actual play.
Fear Vessel / Pink Fear SOUL
A new rare xenotype was added:
Fear Vessel
Fear Vessel is not human.
Fear Vessel is not a normal monster.
Fear Vessel is not a normal monster.
It is a Creature Soulbearer.
Its path is not Godhood. Its path is fear, stolen SOULs, protection, regeneration, and borrowed returns.
Pink Fear SOUL abilities:
- Dread Lance — a fear-shaped spear that can absorb a target’s SOUL if it kills or leaves the target near death by bleeding.
- False Loss — makes a pawn feel that someone close to them died or that something terrible happened.
- Induced Madness — forces severe mental collapse or panic-like states.
- Borrowed Return — returns a pawn from an absorbed SOUL.
Borrowed Return now uses a proper selection UI. Time pauses, the player chooses an absorbed SOUL, and the returned pawn is restored from stored identity data.
But this is not true resurrection.
If a Borrowed Return pawn dies again:
- no corpse;
- no SOUL;
- no dust;
- no second chance.
They vanish completely.
Dreamborne / Light SOUL
A new rare Echo-Soul xenotype was added:
Dreamborne
Dreamborne uses Light SOUL and Hope Charge.
Dreamborne content includes:
- Light SOUL;
- Creature Soulbearer;
- Dream Core;
- Radiant Renewal;
- Light Spark;
- Dream Shield;
- Hope Step;
- Hope Charge resource.
Light-based attacks scale from the caster’s equipped ranged weapon damage and deal extra damage to targets near severe mental collapse.
Hope Step lets the pawn teleport to a high-mood pawn within range, ignoring walls.
Dreamborne is built around hope, support, protection, cleansing, and pressure against despair.
Nightmareborne / Dark SOUL
A new rare Echo-Soul xenotype was added:
Nightmareborne
Nightmareborne uses Dark SOUL and Despair Charge.
Nightmareborne content includes:
- Dark SOUL;
- Creature Soulbearer;
- Nightmare Core;
- Abyssal Coherence;
- Dark Lance;
- Oppressive Field;
- Nightmare Step;
- Despair Charge resource.
Nightmare Step lets the pawn teleport across the map to a low-mood pawn, ignoring walls.
Abyssal Coherence prevents new bleeding and disables hit slowdown / stagger effects. The body does not behave fully like flesh.
Nightmareborne is built around darkness, despair, pressure, mental collapse, and predatory movement toward weakness.
Hope / Despair UI
Dreamborne and Nightmareborne now have a new resource UI.
- Dream Core shows a gold Hope Charge bar.
- Nightmare Core shows a black-purple Despair Charge bar.
- A pawn with both cores gets one compact dual-resource gizmo instead of two huge separate UI blocks.
Hope and Despair are gained from relevant actions such as healing, barriers, stabilization, fear effects, dark effects, serious mental breaks, SAVE-related interactions, and Echo-Soul actions.
Light / Dark / Fear combinations
Alternative Echoes now supports dangerous Echo-Soul combinations.
- Light + Dark creates Eclipse Instability.
- Fear + Light changes fear/light interaction.
- Fear + Dark increases fear pressure and DT Berserk risk.
- Fear + Light + Dark creates Severe Echo Instability.
Players can still build strange xenogerms.
The mod does not forbid the experiment.
It just makes the body pay for it.
Forced endogene SOUL genetics
RIM!TALE SOUL, magic, and bearer genes now force themselves into inheritable endogene form after xenogerm implantation.
This applies to:
- SOUL color genes;
- Echo SOUL genes;
- monster magic genes;
- human / monster / creature bearer genes;
- random SOUL result genes;
- random monster magic result genes.
In short:
SOUL nature, monster magic, and bearer identity are treated as inheritable nature — not temporary xenogene cosmetics.
This should make xenogerm engineering much more interesting for players who like creating their own bloodlines and super-soldiers.
Godhood Rites
The existing Godhood Path received support actions.
Not a new ending.
Not a replacement.
Not a replacement.
Two rites were added:
- Oath of Ten
- Last Vigil
They help support a Godhood candidate during the most dangerous stages, but they do not remove the risk.
Godhood should still feel terrifying.
Ideology expansion
Alternative Echoes adds a large Ideology layer for RIM!TALE systems.

The goal is simple:
Your colony should be able to justify what it is already doing.
Is SOUL extraction a horror, a necessity, or a sacred act?
Are monsters kin, weapons, or superior beings?
Are True Amalgamates tragedies, abominations, weapons, or evolution?
Is Godhood a mistake, or proof that the world was too small?

Now the ideology system can answer.
Darkner resurrection balance
Darkner resurrection was too immediate.
A pawn could die and be brought back too quickly through dark machinery, which made death feel lighter than it should.
This update adds:
- machine cooldown after corpse resurrection;
- pawn-side resurrection cooldown;
- Recently Dark-Resurrected aftereffect;
- Dark Recovered aftereffect;
- inspect text for remaining dark resonance cooldown;
- ideology hooks for controlled or forbidden dark resurrection.
Darkner resurrection is still powerful.
Death just matters more now.
SAVE Anchor visual update
The SAVE Anchor finally received its proper symbol:
the golden star.
And yes — it is animated.
This is a small change mechanically, but a big one for the feel of the mod.
Experimental Simplified Chinese localization
This update adds experimental Simplified Chinese localization.
Important note:
the translation is machine-translated.

Final note
Alternative Echoes is not just another content patch.
It adds new ways for pawns to carry broken histories, stolen SOULs, fear, hope, darkness, hunger, memory, deletion, rewritten fate, ideology, and Godhood pressure inside RimWorld.
RIM!TALE is still growing.
