New Holland (Новая Голландия - Novaya Gollandiya) is a triangular man-made island. It was created in 18 century when Peter I was actively engaged in the development of shipbuilding. There was a palace built for the emperor on the island. He chose to call his new home "New Holland", commemorating his enthusiasm for all things Dutch. Soon the island was covered with wooden structures built to house stores of wood, shipbuilding instruments, and all the other supplies needed to service the burgeoning Russian fleet.

Nowadays different concerts, performances, exhibitions, sporting events, lectures, seminars, parties and much more regularly take place on the island’s territory.
