Announcement. Alpha NET 2.
🌐 Alpha NET 2 — Frequently Asked Questions
Alpha NET 2 is a complete reimagining of Alpha NET Z, built from the ground up with a modern architecture, improved networking, and years of development experience behind it.
Below you’ll find answers to the most common questions about the new plugin, licensing, compatibility, development progress, and future plans.
🔄 Alpha NET Z is still at version 0.9. Why start a new plugin instead of finishing version 1.0?
Alpha NET Z is now more than five years old. Its architecture has become outdated, and much of its codebase was written in CoffeeScript—a language that is no longer widely used or actively relevant for modern development.
Over the years, I have gained a great deal of experience and a much better understanding of networking, architecture, and plugin development. At this point, rebuilding the plugin using a clean, modern foundation is far more practical than continuing to expand the old codebase.
Alpha NET 2 is not simply another update. It is a complete rewrite designed to be more reliable, maintainable, and easier to improve in the future.
💳 What happens to users who purchased a commercial Alpha NET Z license?
The Alpha NET Z license agreement states that the plugin is provided “as is” and includes access to its updates. However, it does not guarantee lifetime support or indefinite development.
That said, I want to make the transition to Alpha NET 2 as fair as possible:
- 🟣 Purchased before 2025 — 50% discount on Alpha NET 2.
- 🔵 Purchased between January 2025 and April 2026 — 75% discount.
- 🟢 Purchased in May 2026 or later — Alpha NET 2 will be provided free of charge.
The free-upgrade offer will remain available until Alpha NET 2 version 1.0 is officially released for sale.
🖥️ Will the Alpha NET Z server continue working after Alpha NET 2 is released?
Yes. The Alpha NET Z HTTP server running on port 3034 will remain available.
However, the HTTPS server running on port 3035 will be discontinued.
✨ What is the main difference between Alpha NET 2 and Alpha NET Z?
Both the server and plugin code have been completely rewritten from scratch.
Alpha NET 2 uses modern technologies and a new architecture designed to solve the structural problems found in the original version. The networking layer has also been optimized to improve performance, stability, and maintainability.
Almost all major features from Alpha NET Z will return, while many existing systems will be redesigned and improved.
🧪 Will Alpha NET 2 remain in beta for a long time?
No. Alpha NET 2 will officially launch as version 1.0, including all of its essential functionality.
Subscribers may receive an early version 0.9 for testing approximately one month before the full release. However, only version 1.0 will be made available for public sale.
🌍 Will Alpha NET 2 have its own online server?
Yes. Alpha NET 2 will use a completely new server hosted by a different provider.
The new server will:
- Have its own dedicated IP address.
- Be more powerful than the current server.
- Include improved restart and recovery functionality.
The PRO version will also include dedicated server files and a detailed guide explaining how to deploy the server on your own computer or hosting provider.
🚫 Which Alpha NET Z features will not be included in Alpha NET 2 version 1.0?
The initial release will not include:
- Lobby chat.
- Alpha ABS Z integration.
These features may be reconsidered or added in future updates.
🚀 What new features will Alpha NET 2 introduce?
Version 1.0 will preserve the core functionality of Alpha NET Z while improving nearly every aspect of it.
⚔️ PvP battles using the default battle system
One of the most requested features is finally coming: player-versus-player battles using RPG Maker’s standard battle system.
This feature is currently still in development.
🔌 Reconnecting to an active game
If a player is unexpectedly disconnected, they will be able to reconnect to the current session without losing their character data or progress.
This system has already been implemented and is working.
💾 A completely redesigned save and load system
The new network save system no longer requires every player to be present.
Any player will be able to:
- Save the current multiplayer game.
- Load that game later.
- Allow other players to reconnect.
- Continue playing with their existing characters.
This system has already been implemented and is working.
🚃 Vehicle Support (Ship, Boat, Airship)
This system has already been implemented and is working.
🏙️ Can Alpha NET 2 be used to create an MMO?
No. Alpha NET 2 follows the original design philosophy of Alpha NET Z.
It is intended for:
- Cooperative multiplayer games.
- Small groups of players.
- Session-based multiplayer experiences.
It is not designed for persistent MMO worlds or hundreds of simultaneous players.
🔁 Can an existing Alpha NET Z project be migrated to Alpha NET 2?
Alpha NET 2 uses different plugin commands and new methods for synchronizing event commands.
However, I plan to provide compatibility with the old Alpha NET Z commands wherever possible. My goal is to make the migration process as straightforward as possible and minimize the number of changes required in existing projects.
It may not always be a completely drop-in replacement, but I want the transition to require as little manual work as possible.
🗡️ Will Alpha NET 2 support Alpha ABS or Alpha ABS Z versions 0.9 and 0.11?
No. Alpha NET 2 will not support the older versions of Alpha ABS or Alpha ABS Z.
However, it will support my new ABS plugin from the beginning. More information about this integration will be shared later.
🎮 Will Alpha NET 2 support RPG Maker MV?
Alpha NET 2 version 1.0 will not support RPG Maker MV.
The plugin is being developed and optimized specifically for RPG Maker MZ. RPG Maker MV is now considerably outdated, and supporting it would introduce additional technical limitations.
MV support may be considered in the future if there is enough interest from subscribers, but it will not be available out of the box.
📅 When can subscribers expect version 0.9, and how far along is development?
Alpha NET 2 is currently in active development.
This is also why updates for some of my other plugins have been less frequent over the past few months. Most of my development time has been dedicated to building the new server, which is one of the most technically demanding parts of the project.
The plugin is currently approximately 60% complete.
It is already in a working state: players can connect, create a game, and play together. However, several important systems still need to be completed.
✅ Already implemented
- Connecting to the server.
- Creating and joining games.
- Multiplayer saving and loading.
- Reconnecting to an active session.
- Variable synchronization.
- Player data synchronization.
- Event command synchronization.
🛠️ Still in development
- Battle synchronization.
- PvP
- Multiplayer HUD.
I am continuing active development and plan to show the first substantial preview by the end of July.
