I moved from a high trust society to a low trust society, and I am still processing everything I disagree with.
Currently reading "Liars and Outliers" by Bruce Schneier, which goes into how 'societies need trust to thrive'. Probably 'trust' can be interchanged with "consistent and symmetrical reciprocity", or "fair and just consequences".
mort1123, this terminology sounds quite alien to me. What you are probably mean is solidarity and lack thereof, and obligatory mutual help and lack thereof. The societies that lack them are... screwed, methinks, both individually and all together.
Dmitry Orlov, this (the fifteen mainland autonomous regions of the iberian peninsula) isn't exactly a "society", so words like "solidarity" do not apply here. I kind of had forgotten that such concepts exists.
This is a place where they refuse to do win-win transactions because if there is no clear loser then that means that both have lost.
So I expect that this first blackout will be one of many as they bicker about where stabilisers (batteries, hydropump, flywheels, hamsters on meth) will be placed and who should pay for them.
I expect the regions that can push power onto the rest of the grid will want to do so and damn the frequency oscilations (full speed ahead and damn the icebergs).
