Since its inception in the early 1980s, the Airsoft game has gained popularity for all ages. It has been adopted by children as a form of action entertainment, as well as by military and law enforcement agencies, to aid in non-lethal, real-world simulation exercises.

But when Airsoft and Children are used in the same sentence, you can almost always anticipate a long debate between parents about whether or not children should be allowed to participate in Airsoft games.

Airsoft is a tactical game in which players shoot their opponents with small six-millimeter plastic balls from Airsoft pistols.

The game originated in Japan when gun possession was illegal. The Japanese made detailed metal replicas of real weapons that work with non-lethal plastic pellets (BBs).

These copies became common in the Japanese market and several companies began to manufacture and distribute airsoft guns in Europe and other Asian countries. Eventually, airsoft guns emerged in the United States and the game became very popular.

As an airsoft player, you have three different options when choosing the right airsoft gun. There are three types: spring, electric, and gas. The price can vary depending on the quality and type.

Generally, spring-loaded airsoft pistols are in the low price range, followed by gas pistols and AEG. The speed of airsoft guns is measured in feet per second.

The law in the United States states that an airsoft weapon is considered a firearm and can only be purchased by adults over eighteen years of age.

Regarding safety, like everything that shoots at high speed, it is important to always wear the appropriate protective equipment: eye protection and body protection.

Parents who allow their children to play airsoft really need to enforce this rule, with no exceptions. To date, there have been no reports of deaths among children or adults playing airsoft. 

However, there are reports of eye damage due to players choosing not to wear masks or protective eye gear. These examples are rare but can be avoided entirely with proper safety equipment.

There is another safety concern regarding airsoft. It is important that all airsoft play is in non-public areas, or specifically designated play areas. It is very difficult to distinguish between some airsoft guns and real firearms, so this precaution should always be observed to avoid any confusion between frightened civilians or law enforcement officers.

Ultimately, it is the parents' responsibility to teach their children how to play airsoft, what precautions to take, and where they will let their children play airsoft.

I do not think kids under the age of sixteen understand operating guns that fire beyond 350 fps. Children under the age of sixteen should start with low-power spring Airsoft guns, which generally reach speeds of between two to three hundred feet per second.

This will allow them to learn basic safety skills with very little risk. This does not mean that protective eyewear should not be worn. Eye protection is irreplaceable when it comes to playing airsoft.
