Я очень люблю сложную эстетику кинематографа Сокурова. Но, как уже писала раньше, чтобы смотреть его фильмы, надо быть очень подготовленным зрителем. До некоторых фильмов растешь годами, если не десятилетиями, но, зато когда посмотришь, а лучше - увидишь фильм, ты его не просто не забудешь - ты живешь с ним так, как будто он становится частью тебя. Так случилось и с фильмом Отец и сын, который я посмотрела относительно недавно, по сравнению с тем, сколько я готовилась к его просмотру, так что "живу" с ним теперь и делюсь с вами своими впечатлениями.

I really love the complex aesthetics of Sokurov's cinema. But, as I've written before, you have to be a very trained viewer to watch his movies. Some films take years, if not decades, to grow up to, but when you watch, or should I say see a film, you don't just remember it, you live with it, it becomes a part of you. That's exactly what happened with Father and Son, a movie I watched relatively recently - compared to how long I've been preparing to watch it, and now I'm "living" with it and sharing my impressions with you.

Только что прочитала очередной отзыв, в котором рецензент говорит об этом фильме, делая акцент на гомоэротической составляющей, что его явно раздражает и коробит. Поскольку у меня уже есть свое мнение на этот счет, могу сказать, что тесный телесный контакт между двумя людьми - это не только и не столько эротика, сколько близость. Особенно здесь - эта близость больше, чем физическая - сын - плоть от плоти отца.

I just read another review in which the reviewer talks about this movie making an emphasis on the homoerotic component, which clearly embarrasses and offends him. Since I already have my own opinion on the subject, I can say that close bodily contact between two people is not only and not so much about eroticism as it is about intimacy. Especially here - that intimacy is more than physical - the son is flesh of his father's flesh.

А еще, увлечение Сокурова удвоениями, где сын повторяет, как бы дублирует своего отца, а тот отражается в нем и через близкий, тактильный контакт, обнаруживает себя в своем сыне. Возможно, это и есть путь обретения собственной идентичности через другого.

Also, Sokurov's fascination with doublings, where the son repeats, as if duplicating his father, and the latter is reflected in him and through close, tactile contact, discovers himself in his son. Perhaps this is the way of finding one's own identity through the other. 

Уделяя в фильме большое внимание телесности, Сокуров как бы стирает различие между ними. Но сын, словно в поисках того, что отличает его отца, внимательно рассматривает рентгеновский снимок: «Твой портрет... Та же самая фотография — только более откровенная и не прячущаяся ни за одежду, ни за мышцы». 

By paying great attention to corporeality in the film, Sokurov seems to erase the distinction between them. But the son, as if in search of what distinguishes his father, scrutinizes the X-ray: "Your portrait..... The same photograph - only more candid, not hiding behind clothes and muscles."

Мне кажется, что лучше Михаила Ямпольского вряд ли кто скажет: "...Само по себе движение между сходством и различием трудно понимаемо и темно. Связано это прежде всего с тем, что невозможно представить себе предмет, похожий или не похожий на самого себя. Философия предлагает понимать такое движение сходства/различия как движение между бытием и видимостью. То, что являет себя, становится видимым, как будто отрывается от вещи и оказывается вне ее. Этот отрыв видимости от вещи дается нам прежде всего в изображениях. Фотография и кино — уникальные средства фиксации этого движения сходства/различия. Именно поэтому фотоизображение всегда несет на себе печать очевидного сходства с предметом или человеком и одновременно всегда фиксирует свое отличие от них. Никогда на фотографии человек не равен самому себе".

It seems to me that hardly anyone can say it better than Michael Yampolsky: "...The movement between similarity and difference is itself difficult to understand and dark. This is primarily due to the fact that it is impossible to imagine an object similar or dissimilar to itself. Philosophy proposes that this movement of similarity/difference be understood as a movement between being and appearing. That which manifests itself becomes visible, as if detached from the thing and outside of it. This detachment of visibility from the thing is given to us primarily in images. Photography and cinema are unique means of capturing this movement of similarity/difference. That is why a photographic image always bears the stamp of obvious similarity to an object or a person and at the same time always fixes its difference from them. Never in a photograph is a person equal to himself."
