DraStic v1.2.1 (Nintendo DS Emulator) for Garlic OS v1.4.9 and MinUI

Hi there

Though there are some unresolved issues (yet), I decided to share the current version.

I will update this post with each new release.

Get the Garlic OS v1.4.9 version here.

Get the MinUI version here.

Check readme.txt for instructions.

Changelog:

- November 13, 2023:

1) Fixed the D-Pad being stuck after rolling over in all directions (Garlic OS).

2) Fixed stylus touch (MinUI)

- November 12, 2023:

1) Added multiple screen layouts/sizes (13 layouts);

2) Added bezel (background) images support;

3) Added overlays support (Garlic OS only);

4) Added custom stylus images support;

5) Added custom logo images support;

6) Added possibility to rotate keys (90deg and 270deg). Useful in games that require screen rotation ("BOOK" layout).

- October 18, 2023:

1) Fixed screen tearing (sort of, still not perfect, replace ".directfbrc" with ".directfbrc_old" in case you won't like the way it works now);

2) Fixed menu rendering;

3) Fixed HDMI-out on Garlic OS (hot-plug is supported);

4) Fixed performance issues on MinUI;

5) Fixed stylus movement (now it can be rolled in all directions without releasing the D-Pad);

6) Added stylus speed control (L1/R1 to decrease/increase stylus speed, 10 levels of speed, 2 is the default)

To-Do List:

1) Add custom menu (offload hotkeys);

2) Add gamepad support;

3) Improve performance;

4) Fix remaining vsync issues;

5) Add overlays support in MinUI;

6) Add mic noise emulation (blowing sound).

This is a huge step on 35xx nds emulation, and it's amazing that garlicOS can finally do tons of games from nds library, and this all thanks to XQuader!!!

I was happy testing when, suddenly, the console restarted and after that it was left with a "black screen" after the Boot Logo.
I don't know what to do to avoid having to reinstall the complete system on the SD 😢😓
In other words: if you are going to test, do it on a separate MicroSD, so as not to have problems with your "official" card.
The strangest thing was that I precisely "installed" Drastic and put the games in SD2 (TF2), where I only store the PS1 roms, but even without this card the console doesn't start.

Nabuco Vieira, the issue you described is not related to DraStic, otherwise, there would be a lot more complaints.
It just happens, occasional freezes/reboots could happen in any emulator/game, especially if your device has issues with overclocking (silicon lottery, there are some units that can't go beyond the default CPU clock or are not very stable at higher clocks).
Instead of a complete reinstall, you can do it in "baby steps". Download RG35XX-CopyPasteOnTopOfStock.7z (on the Garlic OS Patreon page), replace the "misc" partition content, and check if it helps. If not, go further - replace CFW folder content (you can do it folder by folder and try booting on each step).

Great work! Iam new to NDS games and got rg35xx recently so I can try some, thanks to you.

v1.1 performs much smooter, but iam really struggling without analog stick to control "touch screen" scenes. My idea for your future updates is to combine buttons to get touch screen dpad control, for example select+dpad should do stylus movements onscreen with adequate touch press combo. Thank you!

matkas10, Is the Power button not enough (stylus mode toggle)? btw, you can map button combos (with Menu button only, e.g. Menu + D-Pad) in the controls menu (but do not change touch controls in the 2nd column).

I have installed you emulator drastic 1.2.1(delete the previous version and add the new one) on my rg35xx with garlic OS and I don't have bezel and the 13 layout.

All the other things are working.

It is as if I have an old version of your emulator.

Yves Le Boité, "13" includes default layouts (e.g. single screen fullscreen). If you don't have layouts and bezels at all, then you missed some files or installed it on a different card, instead of updating. Or it was some Google Drive cache issue and you downloaded the old version. Check archive contents for having the "resources" subfolder.
I've tested it again - deleted "drastic" folder, extracted 1.2.1 - bezels are in place

XQuader, Thanks, I have solved the problem. I have garlic with a dual boot from anbernic.

I don't know why, but an old garlic is in the folder ""/mnt/mmc/Roms/APPS/Mod/emu".

It was impossible to remove it without bugs.

So I have installed drastic 1.2 in this folder and it works...

love your work here! one issue I've noticed is that I can't change the control for the orientation cycle, seems to be hard coded to be the L2 key, any plans to change this?

Kyle H, most hotkeys are hardcoded, I don't have plans to make them configurable now. I will think of it when all other tasks are finished.
BTW. what hotkeys mapping is better from your point of view? What should be on L2 and what button (combo?) should cycle layouts?

XQuader, I personally would swap the M+L1 and L2 config. I use the main/secondary swap more than the orientation cycling so it'd be more convenient to have that bound to a single button press.
