About

Father, husband, developer :)
WhisperTyper is an app that lets you dictate your thoughts by voice and convert them into text. It uses the Whisper model, which handles this task quite well. After downloading the model, the app works offline, without an internet connection.

1.0.5 version for MacOS (M-series, tested on Tahoe)

I don't pay Apple $99 for an annual subscription (as a developer), so you'll need to perform a few steps in the console if you see a message saying "WhisperTyper is damaged...":
---
# sudo xattr -cr /Applications/WhisperTyper.app
---
Instead of /Applications/WhisperTyper.app, you can simply drag and drop the installation file into the console, and the path to it will be inserted automatically.

upd: this version uses Metal (~50% boosty)

What is WhisperTyper?

- How to use it? Set up the app, choose your languages, models, and hotkeys, grant necessary permissions (if your OS requires it), and you're ready to start. For example, if you want to write a message in a messenger: select the text input field, press the hotkey, and start dictating. After transcription, the text will be inserted into the input field and/or copied to your clipboard (check the settings). This way, you can dictate long texts in segments, and the cursor will remain in the input field.
- Which model should you choose? For my language, I use the v3 large, but for many others, the v3 large (turbo) might be a better fit – it has a smaller file size with comparable quality. Give it a try.
- What operating systems are supported? The development initially targeted macOS (M series), Linux, and Windows, but so far I've only tested it on macOS (Tahoe). Future versions, if there are any (maybe nobody will even need the app), will likely support other OSes as well, so keep an eye out for updates. Personally, I'm interested in getting this version running on my SteamDeck, so that's what I'll be testing on next.
- What about auto-updates? This version does not have automatic updates, so you might want to check back on this page occasionally to see if a version with auto-update has been released.
