Something I never see discussed in legacy media, and immediately discounted when mentioned in alt-media, is Trump's nuclear option to "defeat" Iran. As I recall my army ANCOC lesson on the subject the USA policy on nukes is they can be used first in a conventional war "when there is no other way stop the threat." USA has not renounced first use since then.
Trump is not making rational decisions and is emotional unstable. He would rather initiate a global depression than admit defeat. He and the war hawks claim Iran is existential threat. His generals & key aids are incompetent yes men. Why wouldn't he open the football and order a nuclear attack after a mass casualty event that can't be covered up or when panic sets in concerning energy shortages & price hikes and food inflation?
