Layers, and why i usually limit myself at 3 +bg
Some of you might already know that i HATE having a lot of layers on my art. Sometimes the whole thing is on the background layer, even. Sometimes its more like the example below - the bg and the whole drawing is just Layer 1.
Im not gonna lie here, for most of my drawings i make extra layers, like a soft screen filter lighting that i immediately merge with the main layer and draw on top of.
For commissions, the sketch layer is drawn on top of or immediately deleted after repeating basic shapes. For my own projects or improv commissions, there is no sketch to begin with.

Reason for why i hate having a lot of layers is simple. It gets chaotic really quick, and grows into infinity. Like, on this one there are 5 entire layers that dont even need to exist - theyre only there as an archive.
Ill explain the process here. Originally, it was a classic char+bg situation, 2 layers. Then, i felt like theres not enough opacity and made several copies of the char layer. After that, it immediately spiraled out of control - i didnt merge the layers, so the light one had to remain on top of just one of them. Then i had to merge everything for the color map instead of just using it over my main drawing like i usually would. Then some random corrections came as separate layers just because i didnt merge my stuff.

There's only 1 conclusion to this. If youre just as unorganised as i am, just TRY the 1 layer thing. In the past i used to get far over 40-50 layers on a simple drawing. I once had a layer for THE LINEART OF A SINGULAR PINECONE IN A GREEN BOTTLE ON THE FOREGROUND and for gods sake it didnt even need attention it was BLURRED. like chat be for real. just try it
