Hone-Onna (Japanese mythology)

Not everyone who dies turns into vengeful creatures, vicious and jealous. The Hone-onna retain an immortal love that persists long after their flesh has rotted away, allowing them to continue to be with the object of their affection despite death.

At night, hone-onna rises from the grave and wanders to the house of her former lover. Her appearance is a big shock to those who thought she was dead. This shock quickly turns into such joy that it blinds them to any hints that something might be wrong. Even hone-onna herself is unaware of her condition, as she is driven only by love; she exists as a ghost only to continue the love she had during her lifetime. She spends the night and leaves in the morning, and this unholy relationship can last for several days or even weeks without being noticed. Every night she sucks out part of her lover's life force, and he gets worse and weaker. Without intervention, he will eventually die, forever joining his beloved in the embrace of death.
