How to prepare for a tattoo session?
Hello! Here you’ll find recommendations on how to prepare for your tattoo session and make the process as comfortable as possible.
3–4 Weeks Before the Session:
- Avoid tanning in the sun or using tanning beds. Sun exposure dries out the skin, and a tanned skin tone makes the tattooing process more difficult.
- Avoid procedures that may damage the skin, such as laser hair removal, waxing, sugaring, or aggressive peels/scrubs.
1 Week Before the Session:
- Drink plenty of water.
- Prepare your skin by using a gentle scrub several times during the week. This helps remove dead skin cells.
- Moisturize daily with body lotion, especially after showering, preferably before bedtime. The combination of exfoliation and moisturizing is perfect for dry or problem areas like elbows.
- Stay healthy: If you're feeling unwell, it's better to reschedule the session. Your body needs a lot of energy to heal the skin after a tattoo session. If you're sick during this time, your body has to split its resources between fighting the illness and healing the tattoo. That could affect the final result.
- Inform your artist about your specific needs: Allergies, skin issues, or any medical contraindications. We keep this in mind in our work. Most of the materials we use are hypoallergenic, but sometimes we do come across allergies — usually to things like adhesive bandages.
- I do not recommend getting a tattoo during the first days of your menstrual cycle, as the body is more sensitive during this time, and pain sensations can be significantly more intense.
The Evening Before the Session:
- Do not shave the tattoo area – we’ll take care of that at the studio. If the area has long hair (e.g., on your leg), you can trim it with clippers, but this is optional. I don’t recommend doing that in advance — it can leave your skin irritated or even with small cuts, which can get in the way of our work.
- Avoid coffee, energy drinks, alcohol, and stimulants. These drinks can raise your blood pressure and thin your blood — sometimes that affects not just how you feel during the session, but also the final result.
- Have a good dinner, take a shower, and get a good night’s sleep – fatigue significantly affects pain tolerance during the session.
The Morning of the Session:
- Eat a hearty breakfast to maintain energy levels.
- Do not schedule any important tasks or meetings on the day of your session, as your body will need rest and relaxation. Sometimes we need a little extra time to finish the session properly — and it’s always better if we don’t have to rush. After all, your tattoo is for life.
What to Bring to the Session:
- Comfortable clothing. The tattoo area should be easily accessible:For the back, bring a button-up shirt or a zippered hoodie. You can wear it backward during breaks, keeping the tattoo area accessible.

- Warm socks. Adrenaline produced during the tattooing process can make your feet feel cold.
- A blanket and a pillow (though you won’t need the pillow if we’re working on your back). Of course, we have blankets and pillows at the studio for our clients — but let’s be honest, it’s always nicer to cozy up under your own blanket, right?
Snacks and a proper lunch.
We’ll take several short breaks and one longer lunch break during the session. The studio is equipped with a microwave, utensils, plates, and everything you need. Be sure to bring enough food for snacks and a full meal. We also provide unlimited coffee, tea, water, and sweet beverages.
Gadgets and Entertainment:
- Headphones – You can listen to podcasts, music, or watch movies/series during the session. This can help distract you from any discomfort.
- A book – While you may not always be able to read during the session, it can come in handy during breaks or preparation time. For example, the first session may take 2–3 hours for design printing, fitting, and stencil preparation.
What Not to Bring:
- Friends, family, or pets. They might get bored waiting, and the waiting area isn’t an ideal place to spend an entire day. :)
By following these recommendations, you’ll create the perfect conditions for your session and feel as comfortable as possible. 😊
