An introductory of a dying world
The World of Roads is a ruthless realm, a relentless battlefield not merely for the survival of humanity as a species, but rather a struggle for an extra day of existence. People reap the fruits of their labors—where fear, cruelty, and unyielding despair reign supreme. This entire world is a theater, hosting a play devoid of any hint of a happy ending. Here, hope for the future is a distant mirage, and the choices are starkly limited — either a dishonorable demise and oblivion, or an endless agony amidst the ruins of a dying universe.
And each day of existence, filled with pain, fear, and disappointment—feels like a gift from the powers above… or yet another cruel mockery? The gods have long turned their backs on humanity, leaving it to fend for itself. We manage, albeit not in the best way, but there is no other way for us. We play our parts in this inglorious game. In a realm where mighty knights on steel steeds vanquish the rulers of otherworldly lands, brave settlers repeatedly obliterate the undead that rise once more, and Singers vie with Engineers in the exquisite art of reshaping reality, there exist ancient mechanisms possessed by unholy forces, as wild and perilous as the beasts birthed from the chaos raging within twisted thickets. A poorly chosen word can plunge a soul into the abyss, a masterpiece may rise against its creator, and parents consume their offspring, lest the children soon turn their ravenous appetite upon their progenitors. The last flicker of hope has long been extinguished in our final refuge, this mad theater of shadows… Welcome to the world of the Roads of the Apocalypse! May the paths keep you safe…
BOARD GAMES, SCISSORS, PAPER
Roads of Apocalypse (RoA) is a PnP skirmish wargame featuring combat between various factions existing in the post-apocalyptic world of Roads.
A bit of details:
— All battles in RoA take place on a playing field with landscape elements (walls, trenches, forests, swamps, etc.) set on it.
— The scale of battles depends on the layout of the army and the chosen format an army can have from 5-6 to 60+ miniatures.
— The game is distributed according to the Print-and-Play principle, i.e. all game elements (except for the dice) can be printed on a regular printer and assembled with the simplest stationery — scissors/knife and glue.
BASICS AND FEATURES OF GAME MECHANICS
The foundation of the army consists of warriors represented by paper miniatures. The composition of the squads is regulated by the rules, the characteristics of the leaders, and the conditions of the scenario.
Each miniature has a Unit Sheet detailing all its attributes and equipment.
Each Game Turn is divided into three phases: the Leader phase, the Commander phase, and the Warrior phase. During each phase, players activate squads that are eligible to act in that phase. Activation is the cornerstone of any action in the game.
A squad can activate once per phase and is capable of performing two actions permitted by the rules. Leader and Commanders can activate groups of allies within certain limits, facilitating more complex operations. As various actions unfold, models accumulate Fatigue, which affects their attributes. It often happens that a powerful warrior, seemingly unbeatable, becomes incapacitated solely due to Fatigue, turning them into more of a burden than a fighter.
