The bodysuit is worked from the bottom up, seamlessly. First, work the front and back gussets, then cast on new stitches between them and work the body in the round. Next, bind off the back stitches and work the bib, followed by the straps. Work the leg openings. Sew buttons onto the back gusset and upper back.
The bonnet is worked from the face toward the back of the head. First, work the band in 1×1 rib, then the bonnet in the main pattern. The back is grafted with a Kitchener stitch. Work the bottom edging and the ties.

GAUGE
• Main pattern (often called “Dragon Scale” or “Dragon Skin”) on 4 mm (US6) needles after washing and blocking is 16 sts × 42 rows on 10 × 10 cm (4 × 4 in) square.
• 1×1 rib on 3.5 mm (US4) needles after washing and blocking is 24 sts × 29-30 rows = 10 × 10 cm (4 × 4 in).
NEEDLES AND NOTIONS
• 3.5 mm (US4) and 4 mm (US6) circular needles with a cable length of 40 cm (16 in); 3.5 mm (US4) and 4 mm (US6) double‑pointed needles;
• 3 mm crochet hook;
• 5 // 5 (5) 5 /// 5 (6) 6 buttons with a diameter of 1-1.5 cm (0.4-0.6 in);
• Tapestry needle, stitch markers, scissors, row counter.
• About 50 cm (19.6 in) of waste yarn (cotton yarn in a contrasting color).
