Ibrahim DIARRA ('06, AM / RW) | 183 cm | 68 kg

An impressive résumé: this young man is the captain of Mali's U-17 national team, which secured 3rd place at the U-17 World Cup (in the bronze medal match, they demolished Argentina 3-0, led by Echeverri, who has since joined Manchester City). Speaking of everyone's favorite stats: he was the top scorer and assister for his team, and his impact was decisive—he was the leader and the primary attacking option.
Naturally, as is often the case, that squad, which competed on equal terms with Argentina, France, and Spain, has been largely scouted into respectable clubs (S. Kone to "Man United," M. Barry to "Villarreal," M. Doumbia to "Watford," etc.).
Dominance at youth level doesn't necessarily translate directly to senior-level success. Think about how few top scorers from past U-20 World Cups we can recall. Of course, there have been exceptions—true monsters like Haaland with 9 goals, Saviola with 11, and even Messi and Agüero.
But consistent results (or at least stability) at youth level are impossible without a solid system, and Diarra’s team ranks among the top three in Africa and the world. Their players are highly sought after, and this story could get very interesting.
Standing at 183 cm, Diarra possesses excellent ball control, is a good passer, and can pleasantly surprise with his finishing. He’s a mix of a wide playmaker, dribbler, and finisher rolled into one. But his standout quality is his decision-making speed—he’s like a data-processing machine. He works at an excellent tempo, which can compensate for any deficiencies on the wing, whether it’s speed, defensive contribution, or a lack of a defined position on the pitch.
Diarra plays confidently, often setting up his own shots. While he rarely opts for one-touch finishes, he prefers to improve his position, even when under pressure from opponents.
In terms of style, his range could be described as somewhere between a "less-polished Raphinha" and a "loose Adnan Januzaj," though I see him evolving more into a Christopher Nkunku type (a penalty-box king, among other things—but of course, this is the best-case scenario, assuming he avoids injuries and lands in the right system). He’s the kind of player who can find solutions in tight spaces, beat defenders, and drive the attack forward.

Any elite academy, given such a foundation, can shape him into a player for top-tier clubs through training, tactical refinement, and individual coaching. His potential is excellent. This is a story about a generational talent for his country, nothing less. I highly recommend joining his fan club before it becomes mainstream — like with Yamal.
The main rule of youth tournaments isn’t just looking at numbers or dominance levels (unless it’s something like Messi’s WC U-17 campaign), but rather evaluating the conditions surrounding the player, the vibe, and the balance he brings to the team.

It doesn’t matter how large a pool of players you’re selecting from; what matters is finding those few dozen performing at a decent level. The Malian football school is highly regarded right now—it’s geared toward developing top-tier talent. Many players move to France at a young age and even change their nationality.

Any national team (aside from the top sides now naturalizing talent) relies on the abilities of its current generation. It’ll be fascinating to see how quickly Diarra debuts in European football.
