What is the cancellation policy of American airlines?

American Airlines understands the emergencies, preferences and valuable time of its passengers, hence it constantly endeavors to eliminate all passengers' doubts and confusion about their cancellations and refunds with its simplified and flexible cancellation policy. Let’s have a brief view on it!
American airlines cancellation policy is mainly based on two things, cancellation time and type of ticket. As per the 24-hour cancellation policy of American airlines, any type of ticket can be cancelled at zero charges and eligible for a 100% refund if cancelled within 24 hours of ticket purchase.
However, after this risk-free period, Basic economy tickets cannot be cancelled. For cancellation of non-refundable tickets after 24 hours window frame, no refund will be provided and $200-$750 may be charged as a cancellation fee based on the class of your ticket. But, you don't need to worry about that as you can use the non-refundable ticket amount as credits for flight rebooking. Moreover, no cancellation charges will be imposed on cancellation of refundable and award tickets even after 24 hours of ticket purchase and the refund for the same will be transferred within 7 business days.
If your flight is cancelled by the airlines due to a country travel ban, then you will either get the refund on request or your ticket amount will be credited to your credit points which can be used for future bookings and you can use them easily check their balance in the manage booking section of American airlines’ website or mobile app.
