The History of the Elwynn bakery
Vixormi — or Vixik, as some call her — is a young bronze dragon, merely 380 years old. By draconic standards, she has just reached adolescence.
She spent her youth within the Caverns of Time in Tanaris, where, under the guidance of the Keepers of Time, she carried out small tasks and studied the flow and nature of temporal threads. There she first met humans, orcs, elves, and other denizens of Azeroth.
As she grew older, Vixik began assisting the Keepers beyond time itself, traveling through various eras of Azeroth’s history. She first saw a human bakery when the Timewalkers, led by Chromie, journeyed to the time of Stratholme.
She was about to taste a piece of freshly baked bread, so beautiful in its unfamiliar shape, when suddenly she froze in place — caught in the time magic of her mentor, Sa’at. He knew how curious young dragons could be in this timeline and kept a close watch over her.
It was then that Vixormi’s love for baking was born.
“How can something so pure in its essence cause harm to others?” she would later say.
After the terrible tragedy of Neltharion’s betrayal, Vixik — like many of her flight — scattered across the world, trying to heal the wounds upon her heart and scales. It was then that she conceived the idea of opening a small bakery in the Eastern Kingdoms.
“In Elwynn Forest, there are always hungry soldiers after duty and watch, and adventurers seeking a warm bed and a meal!”
To protect herself and her craft, Vixik took on a local guise — that of a woman in her early thirties, with curly chestnut hair and bright green eyes. Her first customers were soldiers and a lieutenant named Anetti, who guarded the roads toward Redridge. Gradually, the bakery grew: alongside bread and manabuns came pies, cakes, and even tea, coffee, and ale from Dun Morogh.
One day, her mentor Sa’at visited, accompanied by several Time Keepers. He told her that he was proud of her success and had come on behalf of Nozdormu himself — to entrust her with a sacred duty: to become the Keeper of a Timeless Outpost.
They offered to infuse her bakery with bronze magic — to make it a nexus outside the flow of time. And so it became.
Thus, Vixormi’s Bakery of Elwynn turned into a sanctuary of balance and harmony.
Travelers who stepped inside felt calm and peace, for the temporal threads within their souls subtly aligned and came into balance. There were other pleasant effects as well: her pies were always fresh, as if just pulled from the oven.
“Bread carries the blessing of every dragonflight,” she says.
The flour — from the greens, who nurture the wheat.
The earth — cared for by the blacks, who keep it strong.
The dough lives through the gift of the reds — the essence of life itself.
To restore one’s strength, the blues lend a touch of their magic.
And under the flow of time, the shapeless dough takes form,
gaining its unique aroma and beauty.
When the call of the Dragon Isles reached her, Vixormi answered. She aided her bronze kin in stabilizing the timeways once more. There, after “much time,” she saw her brethren again — and even the dragons of the Infinite flight. As we know, the timeways were ultimately preserved, and the feud between the two flights faded before a greater foe. Yet Vixormi’s heart yearned to return to the Eastern Kingdoms.
Upon her return, she chose to no longer hide her draconic nature. She revealed her true self to her patrons — and they welcomed her with awe and warmth.
Now, the Elwynn Bakery thrives once more.
Fresh manabuns await weary travelers, and steaming meat pies from local farms warm the hearts of the guards coming off duty.
