As a forest nymph at night

The maiden dances under the great pine tree.

She is calling the heart of the world

Conjuring the blood of life -

Almighty love.

Understanding the nature of things

Koschei follows her,

He is the real Korochun,

Dungeon evil sorcerer.

bride kidnapper,

Necromancer of these places.

He follows her like shadow.

And dreams to shorten her way

with his scythe.

The one that brings the life of flowers and herbs to the end.

He catches up a mortal fear

on everybody.

He knows where the maiden's trail disappears

in the thicket of red moons

And in the prime of youth

She becomes his wife.

It was given to her by fate

To be married with Koschei

And become an inseparable couple,

On an earthly bed with him

To share mortal caresses,

And with the dawn

To awaken her flesh and blood

Returning to the bright world

And bringing her message

Of the sanctity of the day and the night.

*Koschei and Korochun are slavic folklore creatures related to death and dark seasons. In general this poem is the reflection of the archetypal "persephone myth" as an explanation for the changing of the seasons when young maiden, representing the Nature, half of the year shall spend in the world of dead and then returnes back. It's also can be seen as initiation for the maiden to priestess through colliding with death and finding love through it
