Why don't you need to release an album? (ENG)
Hey. I rarely write helpful information because topics come to my mind with precisely the same frequency. But now, while eating a cutlet with a puree, it suddenly dawned on me that lately, I often meet artists who have released or are planning to release an album.
The topic is quite interesting and very relevant. You look at your idols, listen to their platinum albums, and you want to do the same. But there are nuances.
The topic is quite interesting and very relevant. You look at your idols, listen to their platinum albums, and you want to do the same. But there are nuances.
Let's start in order, and the first question is: who is it all for?
The album is a product that reflects the current styles and tastes of the artist, which somehow reflects his musical component.
We will not go far; let's take, for example, the album Chris Lorenzo - Late Checkout. This is the first thing that comes to mind when mentioning the album (well, except for the cult album Armin Van Buuren - Imagine, but we're talking about bass music now).

This album perfectly displays Chris, who was a year before and a year after the release. This is familiar and understandable to our ear UK Bass, the same Night Bass style we are used to. Chris was clearly on the wave at the time, and this album was 100% a marketing product, after which the vector was changed to Anti Up format and Tech House in general. Is it possible to say that the album is a kind of boundary of your creativity that separates the past, present and
future? Quite possibly. But, based on this, I have the following question brewing.
Question two: Do you have your own style?
I will be insanely glad if I hear that yes, he is. But let's be objective and face
The truth: 80% (and maybe more) of modern bass music is a stamp that is not worth a damn. The album should not consist of copies; as I said earlier, it should display at least the author's past. Style and the author's handwriting are developed over the years, and experience and knowledge harden your skill.
The third question on the topic: is there anyone to listen to?
We live in the era of fast music. This is streaming, where any incorrect sound in the listener's ear will mean switching a track in the playlist. I have been trying for years (and continue to do so now) to attract as many subscribers as possible on all social and streaming platforms. This is my live audience that gets the music the very first. Open your artist's Spotify account and see how many people have subscribed to you? Have you looked? And now, ask yourself the question that is written at the beginning of this paragraph :)
Fourth question: how does the Internet affect the release of the album?
This is perhaps the most interesting question in our discussion today because it should put the final point in your doubts. As I wrote earlier, we live in the era of fast streaming. Music has become a kind of fast food in the world of culture: bought, tried, disliked/liked, and thrown away. Imagine the situation: you planned the release of the album and uploaded it from the distributor, and of course, it passed moderation what is your disappointment when you enter the Spotify cabinet (sorry that there is so much of it today) and you can send only 1 track to the editors. And you have, for example, 12. Or 8. Yes, at least 25!
You'll have to promote everything else yourself, fill in budgets, hire people, buy playlists ... the list can go on endlessly! Surely you have noticed more than once that some singles from the album are released separately. This, for example, can now be observed with Skrillex music.
There is a simple explanation for this. First, it is a reminder of yourself. It works
At the level of psychology. If you flash, in a short period, a few times, then I will talk about you 100%. Well, or discuss it in the comments of social networks. In general, you will make a noise.
Secondly, it's just more likely to send the title singles from the album by the editor of streaming platforms and distributors. This will give you an additional promo if the single is booming, and you will get a free boost when the album is released in its entirety. Why was it profitable to release albums before? Because all this was in the era of physical media. Cassettes, CDs, records - all these media had timekeeping. Now there is no such factor, and it is worth considering the release of the album only directly from the commercial side.
If you feel that you can earn money from this - go ahead! And if in doubt, maybe
should you reread this text? You can tell me: Koala, but didn't you release the album yourself? Yes, there was such a sin, but I was stupid, young, and green. I did not know, I had not read such materials, and in general, the project's marketing was wasted. We all learned this, someone was able to become a step higher, and someone still releases music for the sake of release.
I hope this material was useful for you and you
will draw useful conclusions. I will be glad to read your comments 🙌🏻
