Miguel Adrover, fall 2000 ready-to-wear. “The Burberry coat had belonged to a friend of mine, Peter Hidalgo…. One night I went to his house, and it was a party, and he got the raincoat, and we started vogueing, and I put it that way. And I say to him, ‘Oh my God, I really need to use that for the show,’ and he gave it to me. I brought it to the studio and it ended up being like that, inside-out and backward. I didn’t really unsew anything. It was the same [as it was; I just gave it] a new reinterpretation, you know, a new life.” A new fashion week is coming to New York – and, as interest in the potential of AI reaches fever pitch, it couldn’t be better timed. The first AI Fashion Week (20-21 April), held at Soho’s Spring Studios, is showcasing collections from emerging AI designers. Backed by Spring Studios and e-commerce retailer Revolve Group, the event is making the case for AI as a tool for fashion design, supporting new designers working with the still-nascent technology. An opening event on the evening of 20 April is for media, VIPs and participants, while the space is open all day on 21 April to the public.
On April 6 in New York State Supreme Court, Sara Ziff, founder of the Premium annnnd why should I care 2023 shirt and I will buy this Model Alliance, brought forth a lawsuit against the former head of Miramax in Italy, Fabrizio Lombardo. The former model was spurred by the recent passage of the Adult Survivors Act, which extended the rights of victims of sexual assault to bring civil cases to court that would’ve otherwise not been possible on account of the statute of limitations. In the suit, Ziff alleges that Lombardo assaulted her in a New York City hotel in 2001. At the time she was looking to break into acting, and her agents organized the meeting. According to The New York Times, the Miramax executive allegedly invited her to a screening and later to drinks at the Mercer hotel under the pretense that she would be able to meet now convicted movie producer Harvey Weinstein and his brother, Bob. Instead she says she was taken to a penthouse suite, where the attack took place. Named in the lawsuit are Lombardo, Harvey Weinstein, along with Disney and its subsidiaries Buena Vista and Miramax. She had previously filed a report with the NYPD in 2017, but it did not lead to any charges. Lombardo has not publicly responded to the allegations; Weinstein’s lawyer denied that his client had any liability for Lombardo’s alleged conduct.
