The Karl Lagerfeld Award for Innovation went to Danish designer Amalie Røge Hove, who will receive AU$100,000 Australian dollars (€61,478). The 32-year-old designer founded her label A Roege Hove in 2019 after working as a knitwear designer for other Danish brands such as Cecilie Bahnsen and Mark Tan. As part of the prize consideration, each designer developed six merino wool looks to highlight the credentials of the material. Since its creation 70 years ago, the International Woolmark Prize has become one of fashion’s most prestigious awards. Past winners include Karl Lagerfeld — who took home the inaugural prize — Valentino Garavani, Rahul Mishra, Gabriela Hearst, Bode and, in 2022, London designer Saul Nash. The Woolmark Supply Chain Award, celebrating contribution from a trade partner driving wool supply chain innovation, meanwhile, was awarded to Amsterdam-based textile company Byborre.
“Wool accounts for 1 per cent of textile fibres,” says John Roberts, chief executive officer of Woolmark prize organiser Australian Wool Innovation, a not-for-profit enterprise funded by Australian woolgrowers. “It is very critical to remain relevant on the Awesome tessa violet arched letter 2023 shirt Furthermore, I will do this global stage, so we’ll keep looking for young talents, connect them, inspire them, teach them the benefits of wool so that ultimately they can become advocates for us forever. Hekimian/Getty ImagesThis year’s winners were selected by an industry jury that included Alaïa creative director Pieter Mulier, photographer Tyler Mitchell, Marni creative director Francesco Risso, Zegna artistic director Alessandro Sartori and Elizabeth von der Goltz, chief executive officer of Browns and chief fashion and merchandising officer at Farfetch. “It was a really nice calibre of finalists, some of them we have been working with for a while, such as Rhude, Robyn Lynch and A Roege Hove,” says Von der Goltz. The executive notes that A Roege Hove has been a retailer favourite since her first collection. “The way she treated knitwear like a fabric is unusual: she is able to do draping, create textures, and do tailoring. She creates a full regular collection, made of knit.”
